Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security joins JEE Alliance

June 15, 2017 – The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security has become a member of the JEE Alliance, an international platform that facilitates engagement among all public and private organizations involved in the World Health Organization’s health preparedness assessment process that uses the Joint External Evaluation (JEE) tool.

As a member, the Center will continue learning from the JEE process, contributing expertise, and encouraging others to join.

“We are delighted to join a venerable network of global leaders committed to such an important public health preparedness initiative,” said Tom Inglesby, M.D., chief executive officer and director of the Center.

The JEE Alliance’s 60 members include nearly 30 countries and a diverse group of prominent international organizations devoted to strengthening global health security through thought leadership, advocacy, and philanthropy.

Countries use the JEE tool to guide capacity building. The tool provides a standard metric by which countries can assess their current baseline capacities and measure future progress toward full development of World Health Organization International Health Regulations (IHR) capabilities to prevent, detect, and respond to public health threats, whether those threats are naturally occurring, deliberate, or accidental.

The Center has firsthand experience in supporting the JEE process. In 2016, Center staff conducted a JEE of Taiwan’s current IHR capacities. Following this project, the Center hosted a conference in Washington, D.C., to help share lessons learned from the JEE process and to connect countries who have participated in the JEE to discuss benefits and next steps.
