Applications Now Open for Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security Educational Opportunities for 2024-2025 Academic Year

September 21, 2023 – The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security is pleased to announce applications are open for its educational opportunities beginning during the 2024-2025 academic year.

In a world facing rapid innovation in the biological sciences, growing emergence of new diseases, and changing environmental pressures, health security risks to the global community are a rising concern. The health security field has an increasing need for trained experts who can provide science-based solutions and inform global policies to shape preparedness and response efforts.

The following doctoral degree tracks are now accepting applications:

• The Health Security PhD track within the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Environmental Health and Engineering Department is the first of its kind to focus specifically on Global Catastrophic Biological Risks (GCBRs), bridging the gap between the biosecurity field, academic research, and the global policy community. Selected PhD students will receive full funding for the Health Security PhD track. • The part-time, online Health Security DrPH track within the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Environmental Health and Engineering Department caters to working professionals who are looking to obtain advanced training and research opportunities in health security, equipping them to lead in the preparedness for and response to public health emergencies. Up to 2 DrPH students will receive funding to help support their dissertation research activities. Applicants must indicate their interest within their SOPHAS doctoral program applications, which are due on December 1, 2023. Click here for more information and application details.

Funding for both the PhD and DrPH Health Security tracks is supported by Open Philanthropy and intended for students with an interest in the field of health security, particularly pandemics and GCBRs.
